Every word in it is important!<\/p>\n<p>This list is not exhaustive, and is not a substitute for the Flight Test Guide.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Ground<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t know speeds.<\/p>\n<p>Knows speeds but not what they are for.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t adjust speeds for lighter weights (Vref).<\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t know snag reporting or rectification procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t know how to keep C of A in force (3 things).<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t read weather.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t interpret TAF time subgroups.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t convert Zulu to local time.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t interpret weather (what does it all MEAN?).<\/p>\n<p>Incomplete weather package: no GFA, FD, NOTAMs, PIREPs etc.<\/p>\n<p>Not using LATEST WEATHER for flight planning.<\/p>\n<p>Flight planning not based on existing conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Not using most current pubs (CFS, VNC, VTA, AIM etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Dead reckoning when pilotage would be more appropriate. (As in mountainous terrain.)<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t make competent go\/no go decision.<\/p>\n<p>No contingency fuel or can\u2019t determine real-world fuel load.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t read moment envelope.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t determine go\/no go for short field takeoff (75% rule or equivalent).<\/p>\n<p>Trouble calculating takeoff or landing distance.<\/p>\n<p>No PAlt or wind corrections in performance calculations.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t determine Vr and Vx for short takeoff.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t adjust Vr, Vx or ground roll when flaps used (pre-1980 C-172).<\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t know way around POH.<\/p>\n<p>Using POH for some other aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Weak or incorrect knowledge of systems.<\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t know VFR weather minimums or special VFR.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t interpret airspace on VNC.<\/p>\n<p>General lack of familiarity with VNC.<\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t know NORDO procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t know uncontrolled aerodrome ops.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t read nav and communication boxes on VNC, especially RCO.<\/p>\n<p>No idea how to obtain FISE.<\/p>\n<p>General lack of familiarity and confidence with everything.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Air<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chocks not removed. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Big rev-up and poor power management during start-up.<\/p>\n<p>Brake riding (and lots of it).<\/p>\n<p>Flat landings.<\/p>\n<p>Flat landings.<\/p>\n<p>And more flat landings. (Does nobody teach the landing attitude any more?)<\/p>\n<p>Hard landings.<\/p>\n<p>High crowded approaches.<\/p>\n<p>Approaches with poor airspeed control (usually too fast).<\/p>\n<p>No glide judgement.<\/p>\n<p>Crappy short or soft field landings, or incorrect procedures used.<\/p>\n<p>No control of touchdown point.<\/p>\n<p>No centreline control.<\/p>\n<p>No go-around initiated in case of crappy approach.<\/p>\n<p>Rough aircraft control trying to save a bad approach.<\/p>\n<p>No organised forced approach procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Using archaic bow-tie forced approach method. (Note to instructors: this method isn&#8217;t in the FTM and shouldn&#8217;t be used.)<\/p>\n<p>Crowded forced approaches.<\/p>\n<p>No HASEL safety checks or equivalent.<\/p>\n<p>Poor lookouts.<\/p>\n<p>Slipping wrong way (away from turns or away from wind).<\/p>\n<p>Rough aggressive slipping technique.<\/p>\n<p>Diving in slip.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t track centerline while slipping.<\/p>\n<p>Housekeeping chores not done.<\/p>\n<p>Required radio calls not done.<\/p>\n<p>Incorrect taxi wind inputs.<\/p>\n<p>Incorrect, sloppy or hesitant go-around procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Not initiating a climb in a go-around.<\/p>\n<p>Precautionary crowded with poor energy management.<\/p>\n<p>Poor field choice for forced or precautionary.<\/p>\n<p>Flying forced or precautionary with tailwind.<\/p>\n<p>Unstable low pass in precautionary (usually sinking).<\/p>\n<p>General poor power and energy management.<\/p>\n<p>Skidding turns (It&#8217;s not a boat, people&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p>Weak knowledge of emergency procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Checklist not used for emergency procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t find specific emergency procedure.
